Sticks And Stones, their 10th studio effort since 1992, finds the band working once again with producer John Siket and for the first time ever, the songs were conceived and recorded in the studio, rather than developed onstage over a long period of time.
They are up over 980,000 spins at www.myspace.com/moe, and the new moe. CD has already been heard on KFOG, WFUV, WXPN, WFPK, WMNF, WTMD, WUWM, WYEP, KLCC, KRVM, WNKU, KXCI, KUNV, WNCW, KDHX and others.
“[Sticks And Stones] is a concise, punchy good time, emphasizing the songcraft inside Moe’s improvising mettle and the double-guitar pow of Al Schnier and Chuck Garvey…in ‘Darkness,’ the guitarists sound like a pair of Neil Youngs, trading crunchy flourishes behind bassist Rob Derhak’s vocal.” —Rolling Stone

MARKUS JAMES
“Are You Ready (Mississippi Daze)”
AVAILABLE FOR AIRPLAY now
CD Snakeskin Violin
ON SALE now
LABEL Firenze Records
Bottleneck slide guitarist Markus James—who counts Bonnie Raitt, Tom Waits and Mickey Hart amongst his fans—grew up in Virginia, just outside Washington, DC, and he now makes his home in Northern California.
Markus’s earliest musical memory, from when he was just four years old, is of seeing an old, blind blues singer playing on the sidewalk. This image made a lasting impression on young Markus, and he grew up to become a bluesman himself, releasing his first album, Season Of Dread, in 1989.
In 1994, Markus made his first sojourn to Mali, in West Africa, to hook up with his musical hero, guitarist Ali Farka Touré. He has made numerous trips back to Africa since then, playing and recording with African musicians, combining American blues with the sounds of traditional Malian music to come up with a new hybrid.
In 2005, James released Timbuktoubab, an award-winning film shot on location in Timbuktu which highlighted his collaborations with Malian musicians. In 2007, James was invited to perform at a series of concerts in Mali paying tribute to Touré, who passed away in 2006.
Snakeskin Violin features collaborations with Tamashek women and a shaman recorded in Timbuktu; old-school drummers recorded in Como, Mississippi; Wassoulou hunters; African Diaspora musicians recorded in California and Malian master musicians recorded in Bamako, Mali.

JEFFERSON PEPPER
“Trail Of Tears”
AVAILABLE FOR AIRPLAY now
CD American Evolution Volume I (The Red Album)
ON SALE now
LABEL American Fallout
WEB www.americanfallout.com/jefferson_pepper.html
Jefferson Pepper spent the winters of 2006 and 2007 holed up in his home studio in the Conewago Mountains of south-central Pennsylvania, recording his sophomore release—sometimes going weeks at a time without leaving. The resulting album is a three-CD series called American Evolution which will be released in three volumes this year.
Volume I (The Red Album), which is out now, covers 1492-1940. Volume 2 comes out April 1 and covers 1941-1989, while Volume 3, which takes on 1990 through the future, will be released June 10.
Inspired by Howard Zinn’s book, A People’s History Of The United States, and by the so-called “Dover intelligent design trial” in 2005 (Kitzmiller vs. Dover School Board), the 50 songs on this ambitious project address the question, “What has happened to America?” from the point of view of working-class people.
The musicians on American Evolution have played with Kris Kristofferson, Mary Gauthier, Allison Moorer, Lucinda Williams, Neil Young, Shelby Lynne, Buddy Miller and more.
Pepper’s debut, 2005’s Christmas in Fallujah, charted in the Top 20 on three different Roots Music Report indices, including #1 on the radio chart, along with hitting #13 on the Euro Americana chart and #23 on the Freeform American Roots chart. Pennyblack Music, UK, called Christmas in Fallujah “the best album of the year.”

CD Join The Parade
ON SALE now
LABEL Decca Records
WEB www.marccohn.net
Born and raised in Cleveland, singer/songwriter Marc Cohn first gained notoriety when Carly Simon recommended that Caroline Kennedy hire his 14-piece swing band, The Supreme Court, to play at her wedding.
In 1992, Cohn won the Best New Artist Grammy on the strength of his self-titled debut and the hit single “Walking In Memphis.”
On August 7, 2005, following a concert appearance in Denver, Cohn—who is married to ABC News anchorwoman Elizabeth Vargas—was shot in the head during an attempted carjacking (he has since made a complete recovery). His injury, coupled with the devastation endured by New Orleans in Hurricane Katrina a few weeks later, inspired him to start writing songs again. As he tells it in his new bio, “It was like my songwriting receiver got flipped into the ‘on’ position.” The result is Join The Parade, Cohn’s fourth CD and first studio album since 1998.
Jackson Browne personally requested that Marc be the artist invited to induct Browne into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
“I rank him with Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Randy Newman, Paul Simon, and Shawn Colvin. I believe his music will last and be loved hundreds of years from now.” —David Crosby

My producer, John, enlisted our friend Eric Grush to bang on an electric guitar while he twiddled knobs to create what he later dubbed the ‘tandem psycho guitar’ part on the song.”
Ex-Warren Zevon guitarist John Would produced Quit and played guitar, keys, bass, mandolin, banjo and percussion on the CD; he also plays guitar in Fairchild’s band, The Stone Hand Tortillas.
