RACHAEL SAGE
“Vertigo”
AVAILABLE FOR AIRPLAY now
CD Chandelier
ON SALE now
LABEL MPress Records
A resident of Manhattan’s East Village, self-taught singer and musician Rachael Sage has won numerous songwriting contests, and she’s written music for many TV commercials.
Chandelier, her eighth CD, was produced by Sage, recorded by her longtime collaborator John Shyloski (moe., Johnny Winters) and mixed by Kevin Killen (U2, Peter Gabriel, Tori Amos); it features an A-list of musicians who have played with Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Coldplay, Norah Jones, Aretha Franklin, Moby, Suzanne Vega, Joe Jackson, Dar Williams, Ani DiFranco, Marc Cohn and Tracy Chapman, among others.
Sage wrote “Vertigo” after briefly dating someone who turned out to be married. “It was the kind of thing you see in bad TV movies and you think that it couldn’t happen to you. It was so blind-siding and confusing because it made me question my own judgment on every level.” WSGE, WUKY, KRSH, KLCC, WRRW, KFAN and KVNF are already playing this song.
Typically on the road five to six months a year, Sage’s upcoming shows include Savannah, Georgia (7/24); Charlotte, North Carolina (7/25); and Asheville, North Carolina (7/26).
“Pop music isn’t crafted as carefully and expertly as this anymore, and Sage is the stitch between the great rock and pop traditions of the past and what those traditions have wrought in the hypermodern world of the present.” —Allmusic.com

4 LOWEN & NAVARRO
“Learning To Fall”
AVAILABLE FOR AIRPLAY now
CD Learning To Fall
ON SALE 7/22
LABEL Red Hen Records
WEB www.lownav.com
During their 28-year career as a songwriting team, Eric Lowen’s and Dan Navarro’s songs have been recorded by Pat Benatar (the worldwide hit “We Belong”), The Bangles, The Four Tops, Dave Edmunds, The Temptations, David Lee Roth and a host of others. It’s now been 20 years since the LA-based duo began performing its own tunes.
Learning To Fall is their sixth album of new original material since 1990 and their eleventh album overall.
Coming full circle for their new CD, Lowen & Navarro reunited with six-time-Grammy-winner Jim Scott (Tom Petty, Dixie Chicks, Foo Fighters, Sting), who produced their first three albums and mixed their fourth.
Eric Lowen was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (aka ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s Disease) in March of 2004. The disease has robbed him of his ability to walk and play guitar, but he still sings and tours with Dan Navarro on a limited basis. A video for “Learning To Fall” features a 30-voice choir of People with ALS (PALS), family members and artist friends, including John Ondrasik of Five For Fighting.
For insight into Lowen & Navarro’s impact, consider that they’re among the 100 Most Influential Indie Artists listed in Performing Songwriter’s June 2008 issue, and that a tribute album is in the works featuring L&N covers by Jackson Browne, Keb’ Mo’ and The Bangles, among others. Proceeds will benefit The Eric Lowen Trust and the ALS Association of Greater Los Angeles.

GRETA GAINES
“L Is 4 L-O-S-E-R”
AVAILABLE FOR AIRPLAY now
CD Whiskey Thoughts
ON SALE 7/29
LABEL Justice Records
Greta Gaines didn’t start writing songs until she was 22, but she has a biography that reads like a great novel. The daughter of writer/outdoorsman Charles Gaines—author of Pumping Iron, Stay Hungry and the inventor of the game of Paintball—and painter/sculptor/former Miss Alabama Patricia Ellisor Gaines, Greta grew up on a New Hampshire farm where family guests included Arnold Schwarzenegger and Hunter S. Thompson. In 1992, Greta won the first Women’s Extreme Snowboarding World Championship.
Greta’s been the host of MTV’s Sports and Music Festival, she hosted her own extreme sports TV show on the Oxygen Network, Freeride With Greta Gaines, for three seasons and she hosted ESPN 2’s Basscenter and The New American Sportsman. She has also licensed her music to ESPN, MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon and Oxygen Network, and contributed to a dozen movie scores. Gaines also did a song for the film The Hottest State, in which she plays Ethan Hawke’s wife.
Greta started her professional music career by getting signed to Irving Azoff’s Giant Records, but after recording and mixing 40 songs, the label disappeared in a corporate merger, so in 1999 she self-released her first album, Greta Gaines, which she followed with 2004’s It Was Hot and the 2006 seven-song EP Can’t Kill The Flavor.
Greta’s new album, Whiskey Thoughts, was recorded in Nashville and features guest appearances from Willie Nelson, Raul Malo and Counting Crows’ drummer Jim Bogios.
Gaines has developed a reputation for her live performances. She appeared as part of the legendary Lilith Fair lineup in 1999, and she’s also warmed up audiences for Alanis Morissette, Tori Amos and Sheryl Crow, among others.

LABEL Sha-La Music
WEB www.myspace.com/downtownmystic
Read The Signs is the second CD from DownTown Mystic, a band that centers on Hillsdale, New Jersey’s Robert Allen and LA resident Bruce Engler, both of whom write, sing and play guitar.

Allen and Engler were joined on Read The Signs by drummer Steve Holley (Wings, Joe Cocker, Dar Williams, Marshall Crenshaw) and bassist Paul Page (Ian Hunter, The Smithereens, Popa Chubby), along with E Street Band rhythm section Garry Tallent and Max Weinberg (who have now played on both DownTown Mystic CDs).
“A Way To Know” features E Streeters Gary Tallent on bass and Max Weinberg on drums.
