DAVE RAVE and MARK McCARRON
“At The End Of Day”
AVAILABLE FOR AIRPLAY now
CD In The Blue Of My Dreams
ON SALE now
LABEL Bongo Beat Records
Hailing from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Dave Rave’s (aka David DesRoches) musical career begins way back in the 1970s, when he was a member of much-loved Canadian rockers Teenage Head (and later, The Shakers, The Dave Rave Conspiracy, The Washington Squares and more); Allmusic.com credits him with playing on 30 different albums since 1975.
In 2002, Dave made Another Side Of Love, his first record with jazz guitarist Mark McCarron, which featured smoother and mellower sounds than one might expect from a quick sampling of Rave’s catalog of recorded works.
For their second CD together, In The Blue Of My Dreams, Rave and McCarron cut tracks in both New York City and Canada, where they were joined by NYC jazz players Matt Ray (piano), Joe Bussey (bass) and Stefan Schatz (drums), as well as the woodwind and string sections of the Toronto Symphony.
In The Blue Of My Dreams was produced by Glenn Marshall, a protégé of Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno.
McCarron lives in New York and Rave spends most of the year living there as well, which helps explain why much of In The Blue Of My Dreams focuses on 9/11.

MATTHEW SWEET
“Byrdgirl”
AVAILABLE FOR AIRPLAY now
CD Sunshine Lies
ON SALE now
LABEL Shout! Factory
Born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska, but now based in Los Angeles, Matthew Sweet began his musical career in the mid-’80s playing guitar for pop bands like Oh-OK and Buzz Of Delight before embarking on a solo career, with his first LP, Inside, released in 1986.
His 1991 album, Girlfriend, brought Sweet to the forefront, with the title track helping to propel the singer/songwriter to become what allmusic.com called “the leading figure of the American power pop revival.”
For Sunshine Lies, his 10th studio album, Matthew produced and mixed the entire record himself at his very own Lolina Green Studio.
He has once again brought in three of America’s finest guitarists to lay down tracks: Richard Lloyd (Television); Ivan Julian (Richard Hell & The Voidoids) and studio pedal steel wizard Greg Leisz (Joni Mitchell, T Bone Burnett, K.D. Lang, Sheryl Crow). Sweet’s longtime drummer Ric Menck handles the percussion chores, while the rest of the instruments (including multiple guitars, bass, keys and Mellotron) are handled by Matthew. The Bangles’ Susanna Hoffs and Matthew’s wife Lisa contribute backup vocals.
In 2003, Sweet was one-third of The Thorns with Shawn Mullins and Pete Droge.

RACHAEL SAGE
“Mexico”
AVAILABLE FOR AIRPLAY now
CD Chandelier
ON SALE now
LABEL MPress Records
Chandelier, her eighth CD, was produced by Rachael Sage, recorded by her longtime collaborator John Shyloski (moe., Johnny Winters) and mixed by Kevin Killen (U2, Peter Gabriel, Tori Amos); it features an A-list of musicians who have played with Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Coldplay, Norah Jones, Aretha Franklin, Moby, Suzanne Vega, Joe Jackson, Dar Williams, Ani DiFranco, Marc Cohn and Tracy Chapman, among others.
Recorded at the Carriage House in Stamford, Connecticut, Chandelier was recorded in 2006 and 2007. “This album is more about fragility,” says Sage of Chandelier. “A lot of my other albums tried to portray myself as being really resilient, but on this record I cared more about whether the music would uplift someone or just leave them stuck or hopeless.”
“Mexico” is only the second non-original song that Rachael has recorded. “I heard ‘Mexico’ on the radio when I was in Atlanta [at Dave-FM]. I was about to perform,” she says, “and I heard this song right before I came into the control room. I said, ‘Who is that?’ ‘A local Southern band called Jump.’ It stuck in my head, literally every word, after hearing it once. I played it at the next gig I had.”
WMNF, KFAI, WJCU, WUWM, KCLC, WSGE, KSMF, WUKY, KPND, KKCR, KRSH, KLCC, KOTO, WERU and WRRW are among the many Triple A stations that have played Chandelier.
A resident of Manhattan’s East Village, Sage was in the UK through early August and she has shows in Fairbanks, Alaska (9/11); Talkeetna, Alaska (9/12); Seldovia, Alaska (9/14); Boise, Idaho (10/11); and Keene, New Hampshire (10/26).

THE BITTERSWEETS
“Wreck”
AVAILABLE FOR AIRPLAY now
CD Goodnight, San Francisco
ON SALE now
LABEL Compass Records
Nashville-based The Bittersweets got started in the San Francisco area as the duo of Hannah Prater (vocals, guitar) and songwriter Chris Meyers (vocals, guitar, piano); drummer Steve Bowman joined after hearing their demos.
Meyers’ and Prater’s early self-released EP earned them a three-month run as KFOG’s Local Artist Of The Month. In fact, The Bittersweets had already been spun on KFOG before they’d played a live show and they later opened for Train before they’d released a full-length CD.
Both of Prater’s parents are music teachers and she studied vocal performance in college. Meyers first played guitar in his late teens, after he was already an accomplished jazz pianist. Bowman was the original drummer in Counting Crows and he’s also played with Third Eye Blind, Luce and others.
Goodnight, San Francisco is The Bittersweets’ second album, following their 2006 full-length debut.
Mindy Smith’s producer/sideman Lex Price produced Goodnight, San Francisco, and for the recording sessions the band was augmented by players who have backed Patty Griffin, Ben Folds, Emmylou Harris and John Prine, among others. Grammy winner Jason Lehning (Guster) mixed and played on the album.

BRENDAN JAMES
“Green”
AVAILABLE FOR AIRPLAY now
CD The Day Is Brave
ON SALE now
LABEL Velour/Decca Records
Derry, New Hampshire’s Brendan James began writing songs and learning piano in his sophomore year at the University of North Carolina. After graduating he moved to New York City, where he practiced on hotel pianos. “I’d dress to look like a guest at the Plaza Hotel, so I could walk in there unnoticed,” he says.
A demo got to Carly Simon, who called him to say that she couldn’t get enough of his voice and was singing his songs around the house. The two ultimately recorded a version of her song “Let The River Run” for the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony.
His debut album, The Day Is Brave, was produced by Mikal Blue (Colbie Caillat, Five For Fighting, Augustana) and ex-Five For Fighting bassist Curt Schneider. Brendan also has a four-song digital EP out, called The Ballroom Break-In, which recently reached #5 on iTunes’ Pop chart and got James dubbed as a top singer/songwriter to watch in 2008.
KFOG, KTCZ, KWMT, WNRN, WMVY, WJCU, WFPK, Music Choice, WCBE, KRCL, WRRW, KPTL, KTBG, KBAC, XM The Loft and others have all spun Brendan, and KTCZ will have him on its upcoming Cities 97 Sampler. Meanwhile, James’ spin count at www.myspace.com/brendanjames is up over 1.9 million now.
Brendan has played with Joss Stone, Corrine Bailey Rae, Robert Cray and Keb’ Mo’, among others, and he’ll soon be playing in Bay Shore, New York (9/6).

NATASHA BORZILOVA
“Don’t Stop”
AVAILABLE FOR AIRPLAY now
CD Cheap Escape
ON SALE now
LABEL Hadley Music Group
Nashville-based singer/songwriter Natasha Borzilova, a native of Obninsk, Russia, began studying classical and jazz guitar at the age of 10.
She moved to America as lead singer of the Grammy-nominated country band Bering Strait. Formed in Russia, Bering Strait released two albums in the US, they were profiled on 60 Minutes and they were the subject of a documentary, The Ballad Of Bering Strait.
In 2006, Bering Strait disbanded, giving Natasha the opportunity to explore a solo career. The result is her first solo CD, Cheap Escape.
Cheap Escape, which has been played by WRRW, KFAN, KDNK, KVNF, WSGE, KCLC, KDHX, KOTO, KSMF, WERU, KPFT, KAXE and others, features 11 tracks written or co-written by Borzilova, who also handled the production chores.
“Sometimes a voice is so striking, emotional, and timeless that it doesn’t matter what language the singer is singing to appreciate it. This was the case when I first heard Natasha singing a folk song in her native Russian. When combined with meaningful, introspective, and intimately personal lyrics like those on Cheap Escape, the result is music with undeniable depth and substance. One can only hope there is more where this came from.” —Luke Wooten, Grammy-winning engineer

Courtney is again working with producer John Would, the onetime Warren Zevon guitarist. THE BREAK AND REPAIR METHOD
“You Won’t Be Able To Be Sad”
AVAILABLE FOR AIRPLAY now
CD Milk The Bee
ON SALE 9/16
LABEL Bluhammock Music
WEB www.myspace.com/thebreakandrepairmethod
Milk The Bee is the title of The Break And Repair Method’s debut CD, which was co-produced by Greg Collins (U2, Gwen Stefani) and recorded at various studios around Los Angeles.
Technically, it is also Matchbox Twenty drummer Paul Doucette’s solo debut, although Paul’s multi-instrumentalist Matchbox band mate Matt Beck helped out, along with Doucette's wife, Moon Unit Zappa, and musical friends and colleagues who have collectively recorded and played with Paul McCartney, Alanis Morissette, Jewel, Augustana, Beck, Sheryl Crow, Tracy Bonham and Air .
Referring to Milk The Bee, Doucette says, “When I first came up with the title, it was from a place of pure frustration. It seemed a futile thing to do: You make a record and, really, what's the point? It's like milking a bee. People actually do milk bees. I didn't know that.”
The Break And Repair Method has 106,000 spins at www.myspace.com/thebreakandrepairmethod.

TREVOR MENEAR
“Reason To Leave”
AVAILABLE FOR AIRPLAY now
CD Introducing Trevor Menear
ON SALE now
LABEL Shangri-La Music
Chicago’s Trevor Menear was just two when he got his first drum set, but he was more interested in his father’s guitars. At age seven he discovered Nirvana. “I just remember listening to that guitar and I was like, ‘I have got to learn to play the guitar,’” Menear says. By the time he was in 4th grade he was fronting his first band, called Moon Bubble.
Trevor played in bands throughout his adolescence, and when it came time for college he chose the University of Tennessee from among three music scholarship offers; after just one semester he realized his true education would come in clubs, not the classroom.
Introducing Trevor Menear is his first full-length offering, but Trevor’s version of John Lennon’s “John Sinclair” was featured as a bonus track on the digital and American Express versions of last year’s Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign To Save Darfur.
His self-produced debut features well-known guests Greg Leisz (Joni Mitchell, Sheryl Crow, K.D. Lang, Beck, Brian Wilson), Rami Jaffee of The Wallflowers, David Leach (Ben Harper), Tony Llorens (B.B. King, Albert King, Stevie Ray Vaughan) and Grammy-winner Grey DeLisle.
Still in his early 20s, Trevor is developing a reputation as a guitar slinger, with Groupeez magazine calling him “the next guitar legend on the verge of greatness” and France’s CROSSroads magazine saying that his playing is “on par with Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jonny Lang.”

ROCKY SHAW
“Broken”
AVAILABLE FOR AIRPLAY now
CD No Doubt
ON SALE now
LABEL Old Pants Publishing
WEB www.oldpants.com
Phyllis “Rocky” Shaw grew up in a military family and traveled for most of her childhood, finally settling in Colorado Springs.
She studied art at three universities—Colorado State, West Texas State and the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
Though she’s a talented painter, Shaw used her art to deny her true passion—music— for years. A “closet writer” since her early 20s, she didn’t take a career in music seriously until her mid-30s.
Following the untimely death of her husband, a close friend nicknamed her “Rocky” and it stuck.
No Doubt is Rocky Shaw’s first album and features all original material; she has performed extensively in the Colorado Springs area as well as Texas, Tennessee and Mississippi. Other songs from No Doubt have appeared on A Taste Of Triple A #s 39 and 42.

CD Orange & Black
ON SALE now
LABEL Zip Records/RED Distribution
Baldwin Drive is the pseudonym for New Yorker Joe “Joey Pajamas” Chiofalo, who started out as a session player before doing a couple of ’80s albums and tours as the keyboardist with Australian rockers The Saints.
Next up for Joe was a stint playing keys and accordion with Mary Lee's Corvette, where he met Smash Palace guitarist/MLC producer/guitarist/co-writer Stephen Butler.
In 2006 Chiofalo had enough original songs written to make his own debut album so he enlisted Butler to produce.
With Chiofalo on keys and Butler on guitar they made half of Orange & Black with bassist Fran Smith Jr. (The Hooters) and studio drummer Greg DiDonato, and the other half with a former band mate of Chiofalo’s, Aaron Brooks, on drums.
Joe Chiofalo wrote the anthem for the local arena football team, the New York City Hawks.

ON SALE now
LABEL Surfdog/Weapons Of Mass Entertainment
Singer/songwriter/producer/guitarist Dave Stewart first gained notoriety as a member of The Tourists, the British band that he and Annie Lennox were in before the pair sold over 75 million records with Eurythmics.
Although he and Lennox have continued to work together sporadically over the years, Stewart has also forged quite a reputation on his own, writing hits for (and with) such artists as Tom Petty, Mick Jagger, No Doubt, Bob Dylan, Celine Dion and Ringo Starr, to name a few.
The Dave Stewart Songbook Volume One features fresh recordings, with an orchestra, of some of Dave’s most well-known compositions. The CD will include a hard-cover, glossy book with a “behind the music” chapter dedicated to each song and photos of Dave’s collaborators during the original recording sessions.
Over the years, Dave has played onstage with everyone from U2, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan (who describes Dave as both an “explosive musician” and “a fearless innovator”).
“This isn’t so much a look back but a new beginning,” says Stewart. “When stuff has been put away for a while and you dust it off, you often see something you’ve never seen before. And before you know it, you’re on the road with a 30-piece orchestra!” He’s got dates in Minneapolis (9/16); New York City (9/18); Glenside, Pennsylvania (9/19); Westbury, New York (9/20); and Washington, DC (9/21).

LABEL Sarathan Records
Peter Bradley Adams, who was simply Peter Adams when he was in Eastmountainsouth, is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. He’s logged more than 292,000 spins on www.myspace.com/peterbradleyadams.
Eastmountainsouth’s 2003 self-titled CD spent 11 weeks at #1 on the Non-Comm chart and it featured “You Dance,” a #1 Triple A radio hit; in 2007 Adams digitally released a solo acoustic version of “You Dance.”
His music has appeared in more than 30 films and TV shows in the US, and XM The Loft named Adams “Notable New Artist of The Year” in 2006.
Leavetaking, the follow-up to Adams’ 2006 debut solo effort, Gather Up, was produced by Peter and multi-instrumentalist Lex Price (who has also produced Mindy Smith and co-produced one tune on Gather Up).
The word leavetaking comes from the line, “He's always been drawn to the weather of leavetaking,” from the Mark Strand poem titled The View. “The word ‘leavetaking’ resonates with me on many levels,” Peter says. “It's a theme you hear in so many traditional songs—some of them traveling songs, or gospel songs, or love songs—they've got that old longing in them that I'm really drawn to.”
